Huka Lodge needs no introduction. Consistently ranked among the world's great luxury retreats, it sits on the banks of the Waikato River just outside Taupō and has hosted heads of state, royalty and discerning travellers for decades. When their marketing team needed a newly renovated room documented for collateral, the brief was clear — the photography needed to be worthy of the property.

The Brief

Working with Ali Richards, Senior Marketing Executive at Beckons, I was commissioned to capture a newly renovated room for Huka Lodge's marketing collateral. The imagery needed to meet the standard expected of a property at this level, performing across print, digital and campaign contexts. There was no margin for anything less.

The Shoot

Architectural and interior photography at this calibre is as much about restraint as it is about technical execution. The room itself does the talking — the photographer's job is to get out of the way and let it. Working carefully with available light and composition, I documented the space in a way that communicates both the quality of the renovation and the signature atmosphere that makes Huka Lodge what it is. Every detail was considered, from the way light fell across surfaces to the angles that conveyed a sense of scale and intimacy simultaneously.

The final assets were delivered ready for immediate use across Huka Lodge's marketing collateral — imagery that meets the standard of one of New Zealand's most celebrated properties, delivered efficiently and without fuss.
