Creating the M2 Overland Cover
for 4WD Journal
Creating the cover image for M2 Overland in 4WD Journal Magazine was a project that required careful planning and a lot of precision. The goal was to create a perfectly lit portrait of the vehicle while capturing it in its home environment at the M2 Overland workshop. I used a tripod and multiple flashes, lighting each panel and area of the vehicle individually. These lit areas were then overlaid to produce the final image, resulting in a vehicle portrait with clean, controlled lighting and depth.
Coloured gels were used to create an in-camera colour grade, and different variations of these grades were explored to add mood and emphasis. The process was meticulous but rewarding, and it allowed the vehicle to be presented in a way that highlights both its craftsmanship and the unique character of the M2 Overland workshop. The final result is a dynamic and polished cover image that combines technical lighting with creative storytelling.
