ANGLERS' TABLE - VIVID FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY, TURANGI & TAUPŌ
Tūrangi is not a town that does things quietly anymore. The Angler's Table is about to open its doors and it's arriving with a visual identity that makes a statement. Bold colour, strong branding and food photography that reflects exactly the kind of energy this café is bringing to the town.
I was commissioned to produce food and brand photography for The Angler's Table ahead of their launch, with the images destined for their website and printed materials. From the first brief it was clear this wasn't going to be a safe, predictable shoot. The café's branding is vibrant and confident, and the photography needed to match it.
The Brief
The Angler's Table needed imagery that could do two things at once. Showcase the food accurately and appetisingly, while communicating the character and energy of the brand. For a new business making its first impression on potential customers through a website and printed collateral, that's a significant ask. The photography couldn't just look good in isolation. It needed to feel like the café before anyone had even walked through the door.
The Shoot
The lighting approach was deliberate and considered. Rather than the soft, even light that dominates a lot of food photography, I used a combination of directional hard light mixed with diffused fill to replicate the quality of sunlight coming through a window on a Tūrangi afternoon. It gives the images warmth and immediacy. They feel like a real place at a real time of day, not a studio set.
The colour palette from the café's branding informed every decision on set. Bold, saturated and unapologetic, the final images reflect a business that knows exactly what it is and isn't afraid to show it. For a town like Tūrangi, that kind of visual confidence is a statement in itself.
The Result
The Angler's Table hasn't opened yet, but their photography is ready. A full suite of food and brand images for their website launch and printed materials, built to introduce the café to the Tūrangi community and beyond with the visual impact it deserves.
