OMAKA LODGE — ACCOMMODATION & INTERIOR PHOTOGRAPHY, RUAPEHU DISTRICT
When Omaka Lodge decided it was time for a full website refresh, they needed photography that could do justice to the boutique B&B experience they'd worked hard to create. Tucked away in the Ruapehu District, Omaka Lodge is the kind of property where the atmosphere, warmth and character are as much a part of the offering as the rooms themselves — and that's exactly what the photography needed to convey.
As a photographer now regularly working across the Taupō region and Central North Island, I was commissioned to undertake a full photo and video shoot across the property — capturing rooms, spaces and the overall feeling of what makes Omaka Lodge a genuine destination rather than just a place to stay.
The Brief
The team at Omaka Lodge knew their previous photography wasn't reflecting the reality of their property. Guests were arriving to find something better than the website suggested — a great problem to have, but a missed opportunity when it comes to attracting bookings in the first place. Strong accommodation photography should set accurate expectations while making those expectations as appealing as possible. That was the goal.
The Shoot
Working through the property methodically, I photographed each room and communal space with attention to light, composition and the details that give Omaka Lodge its character. Accommodation photography lives or dies on its ability to make a viewer feel something — to imagine themselves in the space. Every shot was considered with that in mind.
Video content was captured alongside the stills, giving the lodge a complete set of assets for their website refresh and future marketing.
The Result
The final imagery gave Omaka Lodge what every accommodation property needs — photography that's a true reflection of the experience they offer, and confident enough to lead with.
